Paohaus is a small product and brand studio in San Diego. We work mostly with funded startups figuring out their first design hire, and Series B teams who need senior help on a specific problem. We're bilingual, we like the messy parts, and we measure what we ship.
We take fewer projects than we could so we can actually be in them with you.

Small team, real range. Each project gets the people best suited to it, not whoever is on the bench.

We pull in specialists when a project needs them. Illustration, motion, copy, research. If you're curious who'd be on your team, just ask.
Small menu, deep practice. Every offering links to its own page where we go deeper on what it is, what it costs, and what shipping looks like.

Before we draw anything, we find out what's actually going on. We talk to your team, your users, the person who knows where the bodies are buried in the codebase. We come back with a written take on what we heard, including the things you didn't ask us to find. Most of the time, this is where the project changes shape.

Wireframes, prototypes, brand work, however the project shapes up. We share work in small pieces and we share early. If we're heading the wrong direction we'd rather find out in week two than week eight. We design in your context, not in a vacuum, and we hand off in a format your engineers will actually use.

Then we ship. We track what happens after launch because that's the whole point. Adoption, retention, conversion, whatever the right number is for this work. If it isn't moving, we keep going. Our case studies have outcomes attached because we wouldn't know what to do otherwise.

We don't disappear. Most of our clients become repeat clients because we like them and because the work isn't actually finished at launch. Quarterly check-ins, follow-on projects, hiring help when you're ready for your first in-house designer. Sometimes we just send you stuff we read.
Boring back-of-house tools deserve as much care as launch screens.
Hypotheses before designs. Numbers after launch. Both, every time.
Always leave a place better than you found it.
Good work is fun work. The two are not in opposition.
"I had the pleasure of working with Pao for a year and a half at Flock. She designs with genuine user empathy and a clear vision for how to provide the best possible user experience. Her optimizations led to increased adoption and significantly leveled up the platform."
